Clay as Zoolander

This post will probably mean nothing to quite a few visitors of the blog, but too good a comparison to pass up...

First Week Solo

Holly and Clay have been at home all this week without reinforcement and things have been going well. Brian was able to make it home for lunch after one long night of feedings and fussing to give Holly a break and a shower which was fabulous. We've had our "good" nights and our "bad" nights and haven't yet found the magical combination that makes up the "good" ones. With the good nights comes a little more sleep in at least one bigger chunk, usually 4 - 5 hours in a row if we are lucky. With the "bad" nights Holly ends up being out of bed the majority of the night and feeding a ton- wears her out pretty bad. Thank goodness for Brian who gets out of bed to change our little poop and pee machine when he wakes up fussing before passing him off to Holly - also known as the 24 hour dairy.

Clay has been getting alot more animated lately which is so much fun to watch. He makes all sorts of different faces and loves to watch the face of whoever is holding him at the moment. He is working on pushing with his legs for when he starts crawling and wow are his legs getting strong. Clay is also gaining much more control over his head and neck and is able to look from side to side so hopefully soon he won't be a bobble head doll anymore.

Here's a few fun pictures for this week's post including "The Many Faces of Clay"

Visit from Grammy Boyle

We were very fortunate again this week to have one of the grandma's here for a few days to visit and help out around the house and with Clay. It has been so great to ease into parenting slowly the first couple weeks with the extra help. Starting tomorrow... we are on our own for awhile- scary! Holly will have her first full week at home by herself so if you call and the phone doesn't get answered, assume she has her hands full at the moment and leave a message so she can get back to you later... hopefully.

Here's some pictures from this week...

Visit from Grandma and Aunt Heather

We were lucky to have the help of Grandma Swinter and Aunt Heather all week. Clay got to go shopping a couple of times and did really well each time. He's also continuing to have at least one good stretch of sleep every night, which has been great for our sanity.

To no one's surprise, many pictures were taken of Clay during that time. Here's a couple:

Video! - Clay Hiccups

Here's our first Clay video, which was taken on Tuesday during a bout of hiccups. Holly has figured out that all of the kicks she was getting while she was pregnant were hiccuping fits. We've read a couple of places that blowing in his face will help make them go away (that's what Holly is doing in the video) but so far we haven't found a remedy. He doesn't seem to mind them though, and it makes for some great entertainment.

Random Pictures

It has been a couple of days since we posted, which has largely been due to lack of sleep that we got the first three days at home. Last night was MUCH better though and so we've been much more productive today.

First, a big thank you to our wonderful families for all of their help and support in the first few days A.C. (After Clay). We arrived home Wednesday night to see a huge sign in our front yard welcoming us home.

And then inside we found lots of of uplifting notes from Heather around the house. Here's a couple:

Brian goes back to work tomorrow, which will be a big adjustment, but Heather and Grandma Swinter are coming down on Tuesday to help out and then Grammy Boyle will be down after that.

And because I'm pretty sure I'd get yelled at for making a post without pictures of Clay, here's a couple:

Two Days Old

Holly was feeding Clay at 2:35pm today (he's been doing A LOT of that) so no birthday picture to be had.

Instead, here's Clay practicing being thoughtful:

Clayton Brian Heaton

Born: 2:35pm
Weight: 6 lbs. 9 oz.
Height: 20 inches

Both mom and Clayton are doing great but are worn out.

Much more to come in the next few days/weeks, but for now we're going to try and recover from a long night and enjoy some time with our new favorite person.
